Opportunity for North Uist: VOTING TODAY ONLY
The small crofting township of Sollas used to have two meeting places. One was an old barn, which was destroyed by the hurricane which struck these islands in 2005.
THE REMAINING MEETING PLACE IS THE OLD PRIMARY SCHOOL WHICH WAS NO LONGER MAINTAINED BY THE LOCAL COUNCIL AFTER IT WAS CLOSED IN 2002 AND WAS IN A DESPERATE STATE OF DISREPAIR WHEN THE PEOPLE OF SOLLAS ACQUIRED IT IN 2004. THE TAIGH SGIRE SHOLAIS CENTRE PROJECT IS OUR RESPONSE – TO RECONSTRUCT MUCH OF THIS COLD,LEAKY AND ROTTING OLD BUILDING AND CONVERT IT INTO A COMFORTABLE COMMUNITY HALL WHICH WILL BE THE NEW HEART OF THE COMMUNITY.
