Julie Getting Set toTour 'Amber Live' Album

Following 4 highly successful performances of her special commission ‘Heisgeir’ at the ‘Blas 2011’ Festival last weekend, Julie embarks upon a short Tour of Scottish and North English venues next weekend.

This much anticipated Tour will start with a very special 'one-off' performance by Julie as part of the 'A National Treasure V' - a tribute to the late, great piper Gordon Duncan - at The Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 24 September.  Sunday 25 September, the full Tour proper; which will also feature her excellent band (Éamon Doorley, Tony Byrne, Duncan Chisholm and Martin O'Neill); will get underway with a concert in picturesque Banchory and conclude in Scotland's Capital, at The Queen's Hall, Edinburgh on Sunday 2 October.

Julie, speaking in a Press Release issued today, said “this will be a very special Tour as I, along with the band, will be performing some lesser heard tracks, rarely performed live in concert before.”  Julie added “the concept of the Tour however – and the highlight for me – will be to perform our 'Live at Perthshire Amber' Album material – all of which was recorded in one night in Pitlochry last October and launched at Celtic Connections in January 2011”.   This will be a fantastic opportunity for those who have heard the Album but were not actually at Dougie MacLean’s Perthshire Amber Festival, to 're-live' that amazing night last October in Pitlochry!!

All concert, venue and ticket sales information, are available from Julie’s website 'Tour Dates' page.

Suberb Feedback on Julie's Blas 2011 - 'Heisgeir' Performances

Julie is absolutely delighted about the tremendous amount of positive feedback and high praise she has received following the 4 performances of her special 'Blas 2011' Festival Commission, 'Heisgeir' over last weekend.  She, and the boys in the band, are especially pleased with the initial media Reviews published this week, 2 of which can now be seen either at the 'Reviews' page (under 'Live Review') on the website here, or by clicking on the weblinks at the bottom of this 'News' item.

Julie is particularly grateful to have worked with such a great 'team' on all aspects of this special project; Morag Stewart (co-director/interviewer), Lindy Cameron (editor), John MacKinnon and Matt Wainwright (cameras), Craig, Alan and Brian from 'Limelights' (lights/production) and Kevin and Co at Bees Nees (post production).

In addition, Julie wishes to especially thank all the contributers in the film who so kindly gave so much with their superb memories of the Islands, and their many amazing stories and folklore tales.

The musical side of the project was made very easy for Julie by working with such intuative and tasteful musicians: Éamon Doorley, Duncan Chisholm and Ross Martin. Julie would also like to thank Donna MacRae (Festival Director) and all at the Blas Festival for the opportunity to develop this idea and to Bòrd na Gàidhlig for the extra support.

'Blas 2011' Premier of Julie's 'Heisgeir' - A Truly Amazing Experience!!

Julie's Premier performance of her special Commission of ‘Heisgeir’ at this year's 'Blas 2011' Festival, took place in Beauly last night (Friday 9 Sep) and an absolutely spell-bound, full-house audience at the Phipps Hall, responded accordingly with prelonged and much deserved applause for what is a truly amazing experience!!

The venue was full of nothing but positive feedback and praise for Julie and her highly talented fellow musicians, for both the performance and the technical production which includes amazing effects, atmospheric filming and absolutely beautiful music all of which transports the audience immediately to the Outer Hebrides.

This new musical work which combines newly composed and traditional material influenced by Heisgeir (or The Monach Isles as they are often referred to). Building on her own family connections to Heisgeir, Julie has taken inspiration from the geography, history and legend of these now uninhabited islands to produce a new musical work. Using lyrical, filmic, narrative and musical devices to bring different aspects of the work to life, ‘Heisgeir’ features acclaimed musicians Éamon Doorley, Ross Martin and Duncan Chisholm.

Whether you were at the Beauly or not, there is still 3 great opportunities left to see Julie performing ‘Heisgeir’ in Torridon tonight (10th), Dornoch Cathedral (11th) and Glenfinnan (12th). These 'special' performances should not be missed and you can find full details and direct weblinks, etc, at Julie's 'Tour Dates' page. There is still time (just) to get your tickets organised (where available)!!
